A new 120mm sinking pencil has been born from the Athlete series to tackle shallow surf. Flatfish games from the surf are currently very popular. Various lures are on the market, but has there ever been a lure that can be cast by anyone in any situation and can be slow to lure without rubbing the bottom even in shallow surf? A typical sinking pencil falls slowly while maintaining a horizontal posture, but when targeting flounder and flathead that hide on the seabed, the outcome is determined by how quickly you can reach the bottom and lure them slowly. The Athlete 12SSP was developed with a strong awareness of flatfish games from the surf, so it is designed with a rear center of gravity, which is very different from conventional sinking pencils. It maintains a stable flying posture when cast and always produces a stable flight distance, rivaling that of a metal jig despite its 120mm body size.
