This short rod is a step up from the FO-56, so that it can handle 8/5oz and 4/3oz plugs.
The FO-56 was developed as a short version of the FO-60, but in the prototype and testing stage, it was difficult to balance the short rod's belly, which is important for manipulating plugs, while also having a butt section with the power to hold back fish. It felt like the range of lures that could be used with a 6-foot rod was narrow.
When using 5/8 ounce plugs, it was not possible to achieve a satisfactory feel.
We continued testing after that, but we decided that we could not make a satisfactory rod by making it into a single rod, so we subdivided it by the allowable weight.
And so, this Top Water Magnum FO-56M is a step up from the FO-56 for users who use relatively heavy plugs. It is recommended for those who mainly use Heddons and other lures.
