■Mag Shield
Daiwa's unique waterproof structure that shuts out seawater and dust by creating a wall of magnetic oil in the gap between the body and rotor. Since there is no contact between the body and the rotor, the initial rotational performance is maintained for a long period of time while maintaining light and smooth rotation. Most of the causes of abnormal rotation noise are salt dirt and foreign matter intrusion. Except for cases where the reel is accidentally dropped into water, the incidence of unusual rotational noise from mag-shielded reels has been significantly reduced. Moreover, this ratio is becoming more and more significant as time passes. This means that the longer you use it, the more effective it will be. In other words, it is proof that the dustproof and waterproof capabilities of Mag Shield are at an extremely high level.

A fishing method in which a live horse mackerel swims around to hold a bigfin squid. It is safe to say that this fishing, which is said to have originated in Wakayama, has now spread throughout the country.
When it comes to Yaen fishing, the most common style nationwide is to aim with a hand-held rod, but there are some people who advocate and practice "aggressive Yaen fishing" using a hand-held rod. Daiwa field tester Keitaro Oka is one of them. Mr. Oka's summary of the advantages of handheld rods is as follows.
The first advantage is that with a hand-held rod, the angler can accurately grasp the swimming direction, depth, and distance of the horse mackerel, and can control the swimming of the horse mackerel. In a sense, fishing with a stand-up rod is a fishing where you leave everything to the horse mackerel. The horse mackerel swims in the direction it wants to swim and sometimes returns to the bottom without you noticing. It is difficult to determine the depth at which the horse mackerel are swimming, and if you put your rod down and close the veil, you will only be able to search within a limited area.
If you use a handheld rod, you can feed out the line according to the swimming of the horse mackerel, and you can understand the swimming layer of the horse mackerel by the angle of the line. Also, by applying line tension, you can control the direction, distance, and depth that the horse mackerel swims.
The method of controlling horse mackerel is the same as controlling the bait for sweetfish. Fish have a habit of swimming in the opposite direction of being pulled. If you point the head of the horse mackerel you put in toward the ocean and gradually apply tension from behind, the horse mackerel will gradually come out to sea. If you string the line to the left, the horse mackerel will swim to the right, and if you string it to the right, the horse mackerel will swim to the left.
When you want to put a horse mackerel in a deep hole, set up the rod, stretch the line upwards, and point the horse's head down, and it will naturally go deep. When you want to make horse mackerel swim in a shallow fishing hole, apply line tension at a shallow angle to the water surface.
By repeating these operations multiple times, you can make the horse mackerel swim to the desired point. The attack area with a stationary rod is a fan-shaped one centered on the tip, but with a handheld rod it is possible to send horse mackerel into an even wider area.
Attacking a wide area means that the chance of encountering a bigfin squid will be higher. This is an aggressive fishing method using a handheld rod. In recent years, there have been many attacks that simply stop the movement of the tip of the horse mackerel as it swims. Being able to respond to such small changes in real time is only possible with a handheld rod.
[Why low gear? Why double handle?]
Mr. Oka says that a reel with a lever brake (hereinafter referred to as LB) is suitable for such aggressive Yaen fishing.
``The LB, which sends out the line by operating the lever, can be operated with one hand, and by placing your index finger on the lever, you can immediately move to winding or releasing the line, which matches the fishing you have. Yes. Ebr>
The rear drag reel for Yaen shows excellent performance when fishing with a standing rod, where you wait for the hit with the drag free. However, even if you can release the line without resistance by freeing the drag, you will need to turn on the clutch in order to wind the line, and you will need to use both hands to perform this action with a handheld rod. It doesn't have to be.
In addition, the LB structure, which sends out the line by reversing the rotor, has the advantage that the line is less likely to twist than the drag, which sends out the line by reversing the spool.
Based on these characteristics of LB, "Battle Game LBQD" was developed exclusively for Yaen. All of the specifications were made with Yaen fishing in mind, but the two points that tester Oka-san was particular about were the 5.3 low gear and double handle.
Why low gear? There is a rhythm to the pulling of fish, and there are moments when the load weakens during the exchange, but fishing for bluefin squid in Yaen is basically a constant exchange of high loads. When it comes to large fish weighing over 2kg, not only the weight but also the resistance is considerable, and if you try to float it and pull it, the winding becomes extremely heavy in the high gear that has become the mainstream for LB in recent years.
The gear ratio of 5.3 allows powerful winding even under high loads. Not only can you easily collect the horse mackerel during the exchange, but you can also easily collect the horse mackerel.
A well-known advantage of double handles is that they make it easier to grasp the knob and allow you to concentrate on operating the rod. However, what Mr. Oka thinks is the most appealing thing is that the handle does not turn on its own and can stop at any position.
The symmetrical double handle does not shift the center of gravity like a single handle. If the handle turns when the rotor is free, the tension may loosen and the line may fall from the spool, but with a double handle, you don't have to worry about that. The synergistic effect with the LC-ABS spool greatly reduces line troubles.
In addition, the double handle has less wobbling when reversing, which is a big advantage for Yaen fishing. A smallfin squid may release a horse mackerel even if it feels a little uncomfortable, but the double handle can eliminate the biggest factor that causes that discomfort.
